My name is Paul and I'm an addict...

Postby Paul » Tue Jul 31, 2012 11:20 am

a motorcycle addict that is. Simply can't get enough of riding my bike, so I've given up real work and now work as an instructor for RJH in Salford. Now I not only get to ride my bike to work, I get to ride it at work and help others get the best from their riding at the same time... Result!

My addiction first took hold when I turned 29 and realised that I was missing something from my life – a motorcycle.
I passed my test, bought a bike (a Honda VF500F2) and rediscovered the meaning of the word “freedom”. 8-)

Since those early days I’ve been lucky to be able to combine my love of motorcycling with my love for travelling.

In 2009 I rode my trusty BMW R1150GS Adventure (now called "El Monstro" or "The Monster" after a comment from a stranger in the centre of a small town in Honduras!) from Anchorage, Alaska up the “ice road” to Prudhoe Bay at the top of the USA, and then south all the way down to Ushuaia on the southern-most tip of the continent before riding up to Buenos Aires. The trip took 5 months, covered 23,000 miles and took in 13 countries (USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatamala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile & Argentina). It was one hell of an adventure and the full story can be found on my website at http://www.justonemoremile.com/TransAmHome.shtml.

When I returned to my job as an IT manager within a large Yorkshire-based bank after the trip, I realised that I simply couldn’t survive away from my bike and so embarked on the challenge of qualifying as a motorcycle instructor. :o
I qualified in 2010 and recently passed the RoSPA Diploma in Advanced Riding Instruction to add to my DSA qualifications, so I’m now fully qualified to teach everyone from complete beginners up to RoSPA Gold-standard advanced riders.

In between helping pass on my enthusiasm for riding as an instructor, I still manage to find time to go travelling.
In 2011, I rode the Trans-America Trail on my BMW F800GS, riding over 4,800 miles of dirt trails across the USA.
I even had the story of my trip published in Adventure Bike Rider magazine (issues 8 & 9)!

So that's me. If you're interested in learning to ride, already ride but would like some advice on how to get more from our riding, or would just like to chat about motorcycling or travelling, please get in touch or post on the forum, I'm always happy to share my passion for riding! 8-)
Life is a journey, not a destination, relax and enjoy the ride!
