Rjh-Top 5 bikes to beat the travel blues

With the first of the proposed tube strikes just a few hours away it’s probably too late to get yourself on to two wheels now but whilst you’re languishing on the buses being laid on or fighting for that last square inch on the few tubes that are running why not think about how this could all be made better in time for the next round. How you could finally break free from the shackles of the public transport system.

How? Easy! Get on a bike!

With 125cc machines available to ride after completing Compulsory Basic Training (normally just one day) and costing less than the amount spent on a monthly tube ticket there’s never been a better time to ride. They’re fun to ride, quick through traffic, generally free to park and offer amazing fuel economies. And let’s not forget they are congestion charge exempt and only pay £17 a year in Road Tax.

Here are our top five bikes to consider

1 HONDA CB125F RRP £2,600 – Britain’s favourite 125cc motorcycle this funky Honda claims an astonishing 168mpg and costs from just £74 a month on Honda’s current finance offering.

2 HONDA PCX125 RRP £2,600 – by all accounts this is Europe’s best selling scooter and rightly so. With a lively four stoke engine and smooth electric start the £74 a month finance payment looks a steal.

3 YAMAHA YBR 125 RRP £2,599 - For 2014 a new mini cowling not only gives the YBR a sleeker look, but together with the tank covers it improves weather protection too. Available from Jan 10th on finance at 4.9% APR this little wonder will get you to work with a grin.

4 KTM 125 DUKE RRP £3,999 – we know this is a little higher on the price range but its totally worth it. The KTM delivers bags of street style and performance. If you can push the boat out on the price you won’t be disappointed.

5 YAMAHA BW’S 125 RRP £2,799 – always one of our favourite’s this one with its funky style, 125cc, 4-stroke, fuel-injected engine, all-terrain style tyres and the Unified Braking System you have it all; looks and performance. And from Jan 10th on Yamaha’s new finance deal too!
